Turkish fishermen discovered a Ukrainian Magura drone boat on Monday night (29) after footage of an alleged Russian capture of another Magura began circulating on social media.

The Magura, also known as an uncrewed surface vehicle (USV), has become a key component in Ukraine’s campaign against Russia’s Black Sea Fleet (BSF).

This Magura Model V5, loaded with explosives, was found near the town of Çarşıbaşı, according to Turkish authorities. The town is about 1,450 km from Ukrainian territory, on the southeastern coast of the Black Sea, and approximately 965 km southeast of the Russian-occupied Crimean Peninsula.

“Our fishermen found a fiberglass boat at sea last night and brought it to the port. Authorities came and inspected it. It was determined that there was a bomb inside,” reported the Turkish news agency IHA on Tuesday (30).

“The boat is stationary in our port. Our fishermen cannot enter the port; we closed the port to fishermen, and we are suffering because of this. The bomb squad is arriving. We are waiting for them.”

From the images, the Magura appears to have a gyro-stabilized electro-optical turret. In addition, there seem to be two sets of flat satellite antennas on top of the hull, while a third set of satellite communication antennas can be seen on the broken riser.

Although originally designed and mainly used as a kamikaze drone, Ukraine’s Main Intelligence Directorate (GUR) has employed various Magura variants for different purposes, including launching first-person view (FPV) drones and bombers, firing machine guns, and serving as a platform for surface-to-air missiles.
